Supporting Our Community in 2023: A Year of Impact and Giving

January 24, 2024

At Gerald Slaven, we believe that a strong community is built on the foundation of support, compassion, and a shared commitment to making a positive impact. In 2023, we continued our longstanding tradition of supporting the Canberra community through various partnerships and initiatives that aim to uplift and empower those in need.

Community First Program: Nurturing the Heart of Canberra

The Gerald Slaven Community First Program, initiated in 2022, is an ongoing program that supports local charities, support groups, and sporting organisations with a monthly $500 donation. In 2023, our contributions made a significant impact on various organisations, including the Lyons Early Education P & C, the ACT Ivor Burge Women’s Team, Jogging for Jon, Rise High, and the South Tuggeranong Knights. From providing musical instruments and sporting activities for disadvantaged children to assisting intellectually disabled players to compete nationally, our donations have touched lives and created meaningful change.

UC Canberra Capitals Partnership: Driving Success On and Off the Court

In 2023, we proudly partnered with the UC Canberra Capitals, the ACT’s only professional women’s basketball team competing in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL). Recognising the importance of fostering local talent, we provided the team with 3 Ford and 2 Volkswagen vehicles for the 7-8 month season. These vehicles, integrated into the players’ contracts, played a crucial role in attracting top-tier international and Australian players, elevating the team’s competitiveness and ensuring they reach new heights in the league.

Ronald McDonald House: A Home Away from Home

Our enduring support for Ronald McDonald House continued in 2023. We not only purchased tickets to their annual ball but also pledged to fund multiple nights at the house, offering families a comforting space to stay with their seriously ill children while undergoing treatment. It’s our small contribution to alleviating the challenges these families face during challenging times.

Soldier On: Fostering Futures for Our Defense Forces

Gerald Slaven Volkswagen has been a proud supporter of Soldier On, an organisation dedicated to securing futures for those who have served in the Australian Defence Forces. Since 2016, we have provided a full-time vehicle to Soldier On, ensuring they can carry out their invaluable work in supporting our nation’s heroes.

Grass-Roots Sports Sponsorships: Nurturing Tomorrow’s Stars

At Gerald Slaven, we recognise the importance of grass-level sports in community building. Since 2015, we have been major sponsors of the Tuggeranong Bushrangers and South Tuggeranong Knights Juniors Rugby League Clubs, fostering the growth of young talent and promoting a healthy, active lifestyle.

Blackshaw’s Cycling Team and Thomas Randle: Accelerating Success on Wheels

In the world of sports, we proudly sponsor Blackshaw’s Cycling Team, providing them with a fully sign-written Volkswagen Passat. This vehicle not only gets them to races but also serves as a safety vehicle during their rides.

Additionally, our sponsorship of Thomas Randle, a rising star in Tickford Racing, allows him to focus entirely on his racing career, making us a proud partner in his journey toward greatness.

As we reflect on our community support initiatives in 2023, we are filled with gratitude for the opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those around us. At Gerald Slaven, we remain dedicated to supporting our community and look forward to continuing these efforts in the years to come. Together, we can create a brighter and more promising future for everyone in Canberra.
