New Jeep Grand Cherokee Debut

April 28, 2021

Not just in Australia, but auto lovers around the world have been awaiting the debut of the next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee slated to happen sometime this year.

Certain leaked images have revealed the fifth generation of the Jeep Grand Cherokee to mark an evolutionary step in its body styling. The range of the newer models from Jeep also points to this direction.

In a glimpse, the new Jeep seems to have drawn heavy inspiration from the brand’s large luxury flagship, Grand Wagoneer – with a slim, high-mounted adaptation of the seven-slot grille, flanked by LED lights.

Jeep keeps us guessing

Although Jeep is yet to confirm it officially, a cryptic post on Jeep’s official Instagram page talked about something “Grand” is “coming soon.” Is it the start of a teaser campaign for the new Jeep Grand Cherokee or is it for the Wagoneer going up against the new 300 Series Toyota LandCruiser or Nissan Patrol? We will know soon.

Until 2011, Grand Cherokee was Jeep’s prodigal son who hadn’t landed on Australian shores. Just when the country’s love for SUVs began to soar, an all-new model of Jeep Grand Cherokee blasted onto the scene. It was the perfect storm for Jeep. Thus began the sales boom, and it still stands as one of the most desirable SUV’s of all time.

Under the hood

Grand Cherokee remains the flagship of Jeep’s SUV line-up until now. It’s being replaced by a better version of itself. The new launch could be a 7-seat version with V8-powered SRT or even a supercharged Trackhawk powertrain.

The S-Limited now comes with the 3.0L diesel engine and also with the HEMI-powered 5.7L V8. A 220 amp alternator and rear road-levelling suspension are also part of the standard. The Limited is now a V6 petrol-only offer. Other Grand Cherokee house models – SRT, Summit, Overland, Trailhawk and Trackhawk – all remain unchanged according to our sources. A plug-in hybrid model, that could be sharing components with the plug-in Jeep Wrangler 4xe, is also supposedly brewing in production.

Interiors

While there is no confirmation, a leaked rendering in social media leads us to think of a more contemporary interior design than its predecessor, with 10.1 inches of both instrument cluster and touchscreen along with a plush cabin generous with an assortment of premium surfaces.

The cabin is also likely to be inspired by the Grand Wagoneer design which featured a total of 4 screens for front passengers with bigger displays.

Jeep Grand Cherokee remains the top-selling model in 2020 representing half of the brand’s volume. The new Jeep Grand Cherokee is expected to be launched sometime in 2021.

Thrill is in the air, and expectations run high.
